Fall 2012 Trends
Go into any Starbucks
these days, and the smell of pumpkin spice lattes fills the air. So what does
this mean in the fashion world? Fall Fashion is in stores, now! We had a taste
of it, during Back-To-School sales , last month. But now, is the time to start
adding fall trends to your wardrobes.
Some of the following are trending this fall:
1. Oversize clothing: you are mostly seeing this in
the form of outerwear. Runways featured large and over-sized coats from
collections such as: Diane Von Furstenberg and Emilio Pucci
2. Leather Weather: you can find designers like Alexander
Wang or Versace showing pieces that feather the soft and supple look of
leather. In department stores, you can see leather pieces like printed pants,
leather tops, or skirts.
3. Brocades are featured in shows with Marni and
Gucci. If you flip through any of the Vogues or Lucky magazines, you are going
to see Brocades everywhere.
4. “Real Women have Curves” - the peplum look was in runway shows of Stella McCartney and Marc Jacobs. Accenting
the woman’s hips is flattering because it makes the waist smaller. You can find
this in stores at Macy’s or Nordstrom’s
5. “Fuzzy Memories”- making fur fun! Weather it is
real or faux, the trend of fur does not seem to leave the fall trends. On the runway,
you can see designers like Phillip Lim and MCBG Max Azria suing fun as accents
on their pieces. Rather than using fur as a full jacket, you can see the fur
used as trims or panels. They used it as a new way by mixing it with other
fabrics.
6. Navy, Emerald, and Burgundy: These are the
colors that almost every store has highlighted in their stores. Cobalt was a
huge color trend in Summer and Spring, but it seems that Navy is the darker and
rich version of that color that is trending in fall. Jewel tones tend to always
be important in fall, but Burgundy seems to be prominent in stores like H&M
or Macy’s.
7. Printed bottoms are so important in fall. I have
seen plenty of places that have been show-casing jeans with snakeskin prints or
patterns.
8. Cashmere or Angora- sweaters with a soft and luxurious
had feel are displayed in department store windows.
9. Fashionable statement bag. Shop for bags that
are bold and add a sense of whimsy to your closet.
No matter what trend pieces you are adding to your
collection, pick trends that help accent your current pieces. Try not to go overboard.
Try not to wear all the trends together at once or go head to toe with a trend.
Nothing is fun with a person wearing fur or leather all over. It should be mixed
in with your current classic pieces and accentuating them with the trend that
expresses your personality.
Happy Shopping!
